Couple's Ring Box
June 10, 2007 • Cherry, Walnut, Maple, Bubinga

This small jewelry box set is perfect for a couple to store rings and other small items.  Each box is an individual unit, and the shared base features a raised panel for the boxes to fit squarely on, much like a children's building toy.  The box bodies and base are made from cherry, with bubinga used for the floors, and brass pin hinges.  The left box lid (pictured) is constructed primarily of maple, with oak veneer inlays embedded at an angle.  The right box lid uses the same pattern, but with opposite woods (primarily oak with maple inlays).  Together, they make a matched, but unique set, highlighting the strength of opposites in a partnership.

This particular creation was designed and built as a wedding gift for a beloved friend and his wife.  They were recently married after ten years together, and our friend is a carver and scrollsaw artist, so we felt a hand-made gift was in order.  Both of them use their boxes to store rings in, and we created this piece to last as long as they do.

Finished with tung oil, and a hand-polished coat of shellac.
